The first outdoor stop of the Nike 6.0 Stairset Battle Tour 2010/11 at Swiss resort Hoch Ybrig brought plenty of fresh snow and sub-zero temperatures.

While snowstorm “Petra” brought two consecutive days of snow – and 50cm of fresh powder on contest day – more than 25 jibbers from Switzerland unleashed a storm of tricks on the stairset.

Although Swiss riders are usually more known for their kicker skills, the third stop of the tour made it more than clear that they can compete on an international level when it comes to rail and stair tricks.

The skies cleared up during the qualifiers and final jam for a perfect Alpine blue-sky backdrop. Here are some of the highlights of the battle at Hoch Ybrig:

Third place went to a German rider from Augsburg; Lukas Lengle impressed the crowd (and the judges) with Hardway BS 180 to 50-50 Cab 180 out, and a Cab 270 to Frontblunt. Max Wetterstein threw an impressive bag of tricks down the stairset’s kinked ledge, including a FS Nose to 50-50 to FS 360 Out and a BS 180 to 50-50 Cab 360 Out. Boris Bühler stole the show with two clean 360s to 50-50 down the Rail – both FS 360 to 50-50 and BS 360 to 50-50!

With a first place finish at this Stairset Battle, the young rookie from the small Swiss town Hätzingen has earned himself a ticket to the Big Final of the Tour at Nike 6.0 Air & Style 2011 in Munich on February 12, 2011!

The stairset will remain at Hoch Ybrig all winter long and was greeted enthusiastically by the locals.

As the first stop on the mountain, Hoch Ybrig has given everyone a taste of things to come on the tour. And if the heavy snowfall won’t get too far out of control, we can surely look forward to more epic battles in front of epic mountain backdrops. Check out the video for the third spot.
