It was an exciting night in Munich with over 16,500 spectators in attendance at the Olympic Stadium where 16 of the worlds top snowboarders dropped into the massive big air gap jump, followed by a staircase that featured four different rail options. The Air & Style events are famous for the unique head-to-head tournament style format where the rider field is cut in half each round until there are only four remaining riders who battle it out for the win. It came down to Peetu Piiroinen, Seppe Smits (BEL), Halldor Helgason (ICL) and Nils Arvidsson(SWE) in the super final who all threw down some impressive tricks. In the end, Peetu prevailed with his Cab 1260 and was very happy about his win saying, “This Air & Style was so good to me. I did all three Air & Styles this year and got fifth in Beijing and second in Innsbruck, now first here, so I got better step by step. It feels amazing. And, when I think about the TTR ranking I for sure want to finish in the top three.”

Second place finisher, Seppe Smits, was super consistent all night stomping just about every single trick he attempted. His best scoring trick was his own variation of the Cab 1260 combined with a frontside noseslide to pretzel out in the final round. His second place here in Munich moved him into TTR World No. 2. And, coming in third place was Halldor, who was pushing his limits to take the last spot on the podium.

Now that snow is covering the mountain peaks and temperatures are dropping, Burton Snowboards and host resort LAAX are gearing up for the 12th annual Burton European Open (BEO), taking place from January 8– 15,2011.
Over the years, the BEO has grown into Europe’s biggest on-snow event, showcasing the crème de la crème of international snowboarding and contributing to the progression of the sport with innovative slopestyle courses and a perfect superpipe. The BEO is also the premier breakthrough competition for upcoming riders, who often kick-start their snowboarding careers after excellent results in LAAX.

Snowboarders like Olympian Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Enni Rukajärvi (FIN) got their start at the BEO where top results gained them international attention in the early days of their careers.
The BEO is the second event of the 2010/2011 Burton Global Open Series and a 6Star TTR event where more than 400 riders – women, men and kids – have the chance to compete for prestigious titles, a piece of the $125,000 USD prize purse and key ranking points for both the TTR as well as the BGOS.

Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) wins the snowboard qualification. Iouri Podladtchikov is on 2nd place in his hometown Zurich and Sebastien Toutant (CAN) is on the 3rd place.

Auch in der Snowboard-Qualifikation war das Niveau bestechend hoch. Das gesamte Feld zeigte Double Corks und beeindruckte das Publikum sowohl bei den technischen wie auch den Style-Tricks. Die Qualifikation dominieren konnte der zweifache TTR-Weltmeister Peetu Piiroinen (FIN). Der Finne überzeugte mit seiner gewohnten Konstanz und zeigte perfekt ausgeführte Double Cork 1080°s. Der Zürcher Lokalmatador Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) bewies Nervenstärke. Obwohl er die Gunst des Publikums auf seiner Seite hatte, schaffte er den Einzug in die Top 8 erst im letzten von drei Runs — dies dafür souverän mit dem höchsten Double Cork 1080° des Contests. «Ich stand auf dem Big Air oben und sagte mir: Jetzt oder nie. Ich war auf die Punkte aus diesem letzten Run angewiesen, gab Vollgas, und alles ging perfekt auf. Morgen zählt für mich nur der Sieg», so der überglückliche Podladtchikov. Auf die Plätze Drei und Vier reihten sich die Youngstars aus Kanada und Norwegen Sebastien Toutant und Ståle Sandbech ein. Als weiterer Schweizer qualifizierte sich Christian Haller aus Zernez für die Semi Finals.

The Burton US Open 2010 was the final event on the mens Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour calendar. Before the event the race for the top ten was neck and neck with several of the worlds best riders giving it their all for one last shot a place on the all important podium. See the best action from the weekend, including Mikkel Bangs amazing slopestyle run and of course, the heart-stopping halfpipe showdown between Iouri Podladtchikov and Kazuhiro Kokubo. As always pushing snowboarding to the limits and preparing for what will be an unforgettable season finale for the men.

Riders from around the globe are currently making the trek to Stratton, Vermont for the men’s last 6Star event of the 2009/2010 Swatch TTR World Tour season. The 6Star Burton US Open is set to take hold of Stratton Mountain Resort all next week with slopestyle finals scheduled for Friday, March 19th and halfpipe finals set for Saturday, March 20th. This gives the men two opportunities to obtain good results and improve their TTR ranking score for a chance to finish in the coveted TTR Top 5. For the women, the US Open offers the chance for riders to secure a good position in the rankings before moving on to the women’s season finale, the 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam. There are a host of cash and titles up for grabs at the US Open including the men’s portion of the TTR prize purse worth a total of $200,000 USD that will be handed out at the TTR Awards Ceremony following halfpipe finals which will also see the official crowning of the 09/10 Swatch TTR World Snowboard Champion Peetu Piiroinen.

One of the most impressive snowboard athletes in the world today, Peetu Piiroinen (FIN), reconfirmed his reputation with a first place finish at the coveted 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge. The thousands of fans at Tryvann Vinterpark in Oslo, Norway witnessed a piece of snowboarding history as 21-year old Peetu Piiroinen took first place in todays slopestyle competition, and with an additional 1000 TTR ranking points on his account, he took an unassailable lead in the TTR World Rankings. Watch as you see all the action and exactly how it all went down.

Snowboarding superstar and defending champion Shaun White won the Olympic men’s halfpipe gold, dazzling the judges with his tricks – including the gravity-defying Double McTwist 1260. White scored 48.4 out of 50 in his second run after 46.8 in his first, which was in itself enough to seal the title.
