The TTR Overall World Tour Champion titles were a tough reach for many riders who focus on one discipline, but Stale and Cilka Sadar are consistent in both pipe and slopestyle which is a growing rarity in snowboarding these days. Cilka registered 14 TTR results throughout the season with almost a perfect balance of entries in halfpipe an slopestyle disciplines making her one of the most versatile women snowboarders in the world today.

Stale Sanbech (NOR) also registered 14 TTR results throughout the season across slopestyle, halfpipe and big air disciplines. Although he wasn’t able to get a top spot in halfpipe, Stale took podium spots in slopestyle at the Burton New Zealand Open and in big air at the Air & Style Beijing. When asked how he feels about winning the TTR Overall title, Stale said, “I wasn’t really going for it at the start of the season, but then I was leading and thought ‘wow’, maybe i can actually do this! Now at the end, it was exciting. ‘It is really cool to be part of that legendary list of riders who won it before.”

Riders from around the globe have made the journey to Whistler, Canada for the second annual Billabong Ante Up big air competition set for today Friday, July 1st, 2011. The Ante Up is the first 5Star stop on the 2011/12 TTR World Tour and will also act as the first event where riders can register results for the all-new TTR Big Air Ranking list. The riders list is full of international talent including Eric Willett (USA), Sebastien Toutant (CAN), Sage Kotsenburg (USA) and Seppe Smits (BEL) who were all major forces at big air events last season. These guys will need to be on top of their game with some other big names on the invite list who will all be battling for the 850 TTR Big Air ranking points and a piece of the $50,000 USD prize purse.

In the following clip Eric Willett introduces you to the setup up at Whistler and talks about the importance of wearing a helmet. Lets hope the weather gets better for todays finals here at the TTR Billabong Ante Up 2011 in Whistler.

Billabong is celebrating its 10th year and going bigger than ever at Snowpark in NZ!

The ol’ Bro Down is now the Billabong Slope-style and it’s happening from Thursday 4th August up on the hill at Snowpark in Wanaka.

We’ve upped the TTR rating, we’ve upped the prize money (US$30k total), we’ve upped the prizes and we’re cramming a dozen or so hits into the Slope-style course, just to make things really interesting.

Antti Autti, Robbie Walker, Clint Allan, 2010 Open Men’s winner, local Jake Koia, Sebastien Toutant, Zach Stone & current TTR World Women’s Champion Jamie Anderson are among those who have already confirmed their attendance.

There are Open Mens, Open Womens and Juniors divisions.

Parties? Yes.
There’s a launch party on Thursday 4th, at Revolver Bar in Queenstown.
Our mates from across the ditch in Sydney, Australia, Van She Live, will be playing. We love these guys. Van She Live are a four-piece who bridge the musical gap between boldly adventurous shoe-gaze and danceable glint disco. Tickets are $10 NZ smackers at the door.

And of course, there’s gunna be a preso and after-party for competitors and their guests at the Woolshed at Snowpark. We’ll have DJ’s dropping some beats and live music to boot. So if you’re on the hill, there’s only one place to be!

The Norwegian Championships took place last week confirming, once again, an extraordinary snowboard action. Silje Norendal (17), after an amazing season and her international breakthrough, ended the season with two golds, two silver medals and the King`s Cup at the Norwegian Championships.

The halfpipe championships were held March 27 in Oslo Winterpark, which also will be the arena for the World Snowboarding Championships in 2012. Shaper Claes Högstrøm had made a perfect pipe, suitable for both the juniors and older riders. About 70 riders, aged from 12 to 37, showed up and the level was very good. We saw several 9`s and 10`s and an overall good level in all the age groups.

Silje Norendal (17) from Kongsberg rode consistently all day and took the win in Womens Open. Maria Helen Jones placed second before Martina Nicole Næss in third.
Roger Kleivdal (24) from Geilo took gold in the Men`s Open with his run consisting of a frontside 720, cab 720, frontside 900 and a backside 900. Ståle Sandbech (17) placed second before Fredrik Austbø in third place.
After almost a week of great riding it was time for the grand finale — the slopestyle finals. The spectators witnessed a slopestyle finals with an international level of riding. Per Iver Grimsrud took his first Norwegian Championship gold with a run consisting of cab 900, 50-50 back 360, frontside 720, frontboard 270 and finishing with a backside 1080. Emil Andre Ulsletten took silver and Ulrik Badertscher bronze in the finals of Men`s Open.

Dina Treland won the finals of Women`s Open, and there were only five small points between her and silver medalist Silje Norendal. Marte Søderlund have impressed the judges all week, and she took bronze. Dina also won the Norwegian Cup together with Roger Kleivdal. Silje Norendal and Per Iver Grimsrud could also take home the King`s Cup for their achievements at The Norwegian Championships 2011.

Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Jamie Anderson (USA) were officially crowned the 2010/11 Swatch TTR World Tour Champions at the 29th annual 6Star Burton US Open today. After their amazing performances throughout this 10-month long season, they were each rewarded with the TTR Champion trophies and $50,000 USD along with the glory of both becoming multiple TTR World Tour title-holders. Peetu and Jamie are no strangers to the TTR podium. This is Jamie’s second TTR World Tour title and Peetu has made history once again earning a remarkable third consecutive TTR title. The Burton US Open is the last major stop of the 2010/11 TTR World Tour season and played host to the official Swatch TTR World Tour awards ceremony at the close of the event. This season, Peetu competed on three different continents and did not discriminate when choosing what types of events to attend. Peetu does it all and does it all well. He began this season in Asia at the 6Star Shaun White Oakley Air & Style in Beijing, China where he placed fifth in the big air competition. From Asia, he moved on to Europe where he took fourth place at the 6Star O’Neill Evolution halfpipe in Davos, Switzerland. Peetu found himself back on the podium when he took down the 6Star Burton European Open halfpipe title and placed second in slopestyle. And, at the 6Star Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck, Austria, Peetu took another second place. Just one week later, he won the 6Star Nike 6.0 Air & Style in Munich, Germany, which was the result that ended up clinching his TTR World Tour title for the 2010/11 season.Jamie dominated in the 2010/11 season claiming victories on slopestyle courses all over the globe, starting off with the 5Star New Zealand Open and the 6Star O’Neill Evolution slopestyle competitions. She went on to win the 6Star Burton European Open and the Oakley Arctic Challenge slopestyle events, which set her high above the rest of her competitors. Her second TTR World Tour title was confirmed at the Burton US Open where she took second place in slopestyle.

At the age of 23, Peetu has had an amazing run in competitive snowboarding with over 25 career podiums. Peetu started competing back in 1997 at the ripe age of 9-years old and has been steadily progressing his riding since. He made his first big break onto the scene back in 2006 when he took his first major win at the Burton European Open, where he won the slopestyle title. From there, he has expanded his skills into the halfpipe, quarterpipe and big air jumps winning competitions around the world. The key to Peetu’s success on the TTR World Tour has been his ability to master all disciplines in freestyle snowboarding. This season, Peetu competed on three different continents and did not discriminate when choosing what types of events to attend. Peetu does it all and does it all well. He began this season in Asia at the 6Star Shaun White Oakley Air & Style in Beijing, China where he placed fifth in the big air competition. Jamie throws down complex rail combos with her signature style and goes big over the kicker line with effortless lofty airs, making it look all too easy. Jamie has made her mark in the freestyle snowboard world with her focused and constantly progressing creative riding style and a fun-loving down to earth attitude. She has some serious accomplishments under her belt including nailing the 2007/2008 Swatch TTR World Tour Champion title as the youngest rider to take the prestigious award and winning more than a dozen 5Star and 6Star events over the years.Jamie dominated in the 2010/11 TTR tour season claiming victories on slopestyle courses all over the globe, starting off with the 5Star New Zealand Open and the 6Star O’Neill Evolution slopestyle competitions.

A truly spectacular performance was witnessed by the three thousand spectators gathered for the biggest Slovakian snowboard contest, the 4Star Sony Ericsson Snowboard Fest on Saturday 19th of February 2011. The freshly upgraded 4Star big air event attracted local superstars, as well as, a strong Swedish and Czech representation to Driencia, the Slovak resort, and a high level of riding was seen throughout the day. Isak Björnström (SWE) took the title leaving countryman Felix Mobärg in second and Jan Nečas (CZE) in third. Isak took home 500 Swatch TTR Ranking points and a mighty share of the $20 000 USD prize purse.

The 17-meter flat kicker was in perfect shape and liked by all the riders, and the warm and slightly slushy conditions during the day let riders in the qualifying rounds fly by with a smile on their face. The unique qualification format was one part of the day that made the event memorable and maximised the riding done by the riders. In the first qualification round a minimum of 540 rotation was required to move on, and semi-finals saw a one hour jam session with 2 scored runs where tricks had to be called before dropping in.

The evening brought some gusts of wind, but that did not stop the ten qualified riders from putting on a killer showdown in the three jumps, best two counts final. Winner Isak Björnström (SWE) stomped a huge and clean switch backside 900 in the first run, and polished off the victory with a frontside 1080. He was stoked to take his career’s first 4Star title and said, “It’s the first time I’m here in Slovakia and it was a really great day today. The jump was perfect and with really good riders here, everyone had fun. I came here with couple friends and I’m super happy now.”

Felix Mobärg (SWE) who rose to second place landed a backside 720 and a frontside 1080, and in third Czech ripper Jan Nečas threw down a crowd pleasing double back flip and a frontside 1080 and moved up into the World No. 57 in the Swatch TTR tour rankings.

A bright sunny day welcomed the 55 international snowboarders competing in the 5Star Burn Slopestyle finals to the world renowned Swatch Mottolino Snowpark in Livigno, Italy.

The slopestyle course featured a Burn can for jibbing as a starter, followed by the choice of a Burn can to bonk or a 2 meter gap box leading in to the massive kicker line made out of a 20 meter kicker, a 19 meter gap jump and a 22 meter kicker at the end.
The three run final saw a high level of riding throughout the day, even though snowy grey clouds came in during the last run, but riders powered through the visibility issues with determination. In the end, it was the Norwegian viking Ulrik Badertscher, who took the win with a backside 1080, a double backside rodeo and a huge cab 1080. In a close second came the young Swiss talent Patrick Burgener with a switch backside 900, a backside 1080 double cork and a frontside 900. Third place went to Jamie Nicholls from the UK with his winning run that included a cab 900, frontside 720 and a backside 1080.
